Refunds

Within the first thirty days of enrollment a candidate may request a refund. No refund request form will be accepted if it is submitted more than 30 days after the date of the original payment to the American Board. Candidates eligible for a refund will receive 80% of their enrollment fee. No preparation materials are eligible for a refund. All refund requests must be in writing via the American Board refund request form. Refund request forms can be requested at http://helpdesk.abcte.org

* Retake payments are not eligible for refund
* Installment plans are not eligible for refund
* Teach & Inspire fees are not eligible for refund

There are no extenuating circumstances which will result in an exception to this policy.

Extension Requests/Subject Area Changes

All candidates requesting an extension or subject area change after enrolling in an American Board certification program are assessed fees. The extension fee extends candidate eligibility for a period of 6 months. Extension fees or subject area changes can be paid directly to the American Board by any of the methods listed below:

Accepted methods of payment:
Personal check (domestic banks only) made payable to The American Board, Inc.
MasterCard, VISA, American Express, Discover
Money order made payable to The American Board, Inc.
Cashier’s check made payable to The American Board, Inc.

All extensions and subject area changes must be requested through the candidate services department by calling 1-877-669-2228 option 3.

* Teach & Inspire scholarship candidates must contact Teach & Inspire staff for approval before a subject area change.

Reactivation Fees

Any candidate who has been inactive for 6 months or more and wishes to re-activate their account needs to pay the full amount of their certification program. Reactivation fees can be paid directly to the American Board by any of the methods listed below:

All reactivation fees must be processed manually by the candidate services department. You can request a reactivation by calling 1-877-669-2228 option 3.
